The therapist uses bare feet, oil/lotion, body weight, gravity and overhead support to apply broad, deep, sweeping strokes with consistent pressure which may create structural changes to soft tissue as well as calming down the nervous system.
Deep tissue massage targets muscle, connective and fascial tissue to realign and improve range of motion, release chronic patterns of tension, and help heal injuries.
The therapist may incorporate traditional Swedish techniques using gentle and intentional pressure, and smooth gliding strokes to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and encourage other health benefits.
Heated stones are applied to lubricated tissue and may be placed or incorporated into Swedish massage techniques to promote circulation, relieve muscle tension and encourage relaxation. Cold stones may be applied in a similar fashion- but conversely will encourage vasoconstriction (blood moving away from local tissues). This promotes an analgesic effect and is best used for acute injuries, headaches, sinus pressure and local inflammation.
